Description
Piperacillin and Tazobactam for Injection
Indications:
PEPTIZA™ is indicated for the treatment of the following systemic and/or local bacterial infections:
Adults and Elderly:
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
- Intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis and appendicitis complicated with rupture or abscess
- Skin and soft tissue infections (complicated and uncomplicated)
- Post-partum endometritis and pelvic infections
- Polymicrobial infections
- Bacterial septicaemia
- Bacterial infections in neutropenic patients (in combination with an aminoglycoside)
Pediatrics:
- Intra-abdominal infections, including appendicitis complicated by rupture with peritonitis and/or abscess formation, biliary infections
- Bacterial infections in neutropenic children (in combination with an aminoglycoside)
Composition (per vial):
- Piperacillin sodium equivalent to Piperacillin – 4 g
- Tazobactam sodium equivalent to Tazobactam – 500 mg
Dosage and Administration:
Route: Slow Intravenous Infusion (over 20–30 minutes) or Slow IV Injection (at least 3–5 minutes)
Adults and Children ≥12 Years:
- General infections: 12 g Piperacillin / 1.5 g Tazobactam per day in divided doses every 6–8 hours
- Severe infections: 18 g Piperacillin / 2.25 g Tazobactam per day in divided doses
Pediatric Intra-abdominal Infections (2–12 years, ≥40 kg, normal renal function):
- 100 mg Piperacillin / 12.5 mg Tazobactam per kg body weight every 8 hours
Storage Conditions:
- Store injection vials at 20–25°C (Room Temperature) prior to reconstitution.
- Protect from light and moisture.
