Description
BERVOM SYRUP is an antiemetic formulation containing Ondansetron 2 mg/5 ml, developed to provide rapid and effective relief from nausea and vomiting in pediatric and adult patients. By selectively blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system, it helps prevent vomiting, improves oral intake, and reduces the risk of dehydration.
Composition
Each 5 ml contains:
- Ondansetron Hydrochloride IP
Equivalent to Ondansetron – 2 mg
Dosage Form: Oral Syrup
Indications
BERVOM SYRUP is indicated for:
- Acute gastroenteritis associated with vomiting
- Nausea and vomiting in children
- Food poisoning
- Drug-induced nausea and vomiting
- Post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV)
- Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
- Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV)
- Gastrointestinal disorders associated with vomiting
- Prevention of dehydration due to persistent vomiting
Mode of Action
Ondansetron is a highly selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist.
Serotonin released from enterochromaffin cells in the small intestine during illness or medication stimulates vagal afferent nerves and the vomiting center in the brain, triggering nausea and vomiting.
Ondansetron blocks 5-HT3 receptors both:
- Peripherally on vagal nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract.
- Centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the brain.
Combined Therapeutic Effects
- Prevents nausea and vomiting
- Reduces vomiting episodes
- Improves oral fluid and food intake
- Prevents dehydration
- Improves patient comfort
- Supports faster recovery
Dosage
| Age Group | Recommended Dose |
